Week 6

Week 6, a fairly interesting week. Firstly, attended my first mess dinner in UK, Bicentennial Trafalgar night dinner. This year is the Bicentennial of the Battle of Trafalgar, fought on 21 October 1805, is part of the War of the Third Coalition assembled by Britain against France. It was the most significant naval engagement of the Napoleonic Wars and the pivotal naval battle of the 19th century. A Royal Navy fleet of 27 ships of the line destroyed an allied French and Spanish fleet of 33 ships of the line west of Cape Trafalgar in south-west Spain. The allies lost 22 ships; the British none. The British commander Admiral Lord Nelson died late in the battle, by which time he had ensured his place as Britain's greatest naval hero.

The last mess dinner that I attended was 6 years back, when I first commission as an officer from OCS, so I was really excited looking forward to this one, also wanting to learn more bout their cultures and histories. Change into my number 2 uniform. Took a photo with the RMN officer. Look at my Shanghai Tang hair style. Smart? Haha…

The food we had that night.

The wine we had.

Door gift. Wine glass

Now to the weekend. Saturday is the best time to do your laundry. The washing machines and dryers are all mine!!! And again, this week I went out shopping. I hate shopping. Shopping = spending lots of money = breaking my monthly budget. Without a shopping list, I still manage to spend… Went out with MO and Hannah. I realize MO have almost the same bad spending habits as me. He bought S$300 worth of DVD. 0.0 So I am not that bad lah. I only crazy bout CDs not DVDs.

Fareham Town on a Saturday.

After a day of shopping.

What I bought.

My favorite sweet when I was 12.

New shoes. For soccer. Nice?

After dropping all the items, we decided to head to Gunwharf for dinner. Night view of the Spinnaker Tower. She was officially open this week, 18 Oct 05, 5 years late for a millennium project. From the picture, most of you would agree 5 years is worth the wait.

After dinner we went to a beach. I finally found and did what I have missed in my last 25 years. FIREWORKS!!!

Mo setting up.

Mo on the run. Hahaha…

Eric launching his first fireworks of his life.

It was great fun. They go up as high as 10 stories before exploding throwing out seeds of green/blue/red lights. Mo had all the moment capture in his HP. Will try to get it from him and post it here. With the following photos, eric signing off...

Wardroom

What you do when you are bored, don’t feel like going out and spend money, having the whole wardroom almost to yourself when every other person left for home? Take your camera and do some crazy snapping...

The Canadians have left this morning. So the wardroom is going to be a lot quieter. They are a fun group of people and I think the wardroom is gonna miss them.

I am enjoying the quiet and slower pace life here. Although the reports are coming in fast and furious, but with not much distraction, I am handling them pretty well.

Maybe this is the type of life that I want. Quiet, peaceful, having more time for myself... I am able to concentrate better in the things I do. Able to listen to my favorite music, and shut myself out from this world momentarily, knowing that there would be no distraction; no sms, no phone calls, no one calling out for you… For a moment, the 5 big Cs in Singapore don’t really look so important.

Just like to show you some of the facilities that I have here. And some of the places that I spend most of my leisure time in.

The place I do my laundry.

When you are in for a bath, this is where you go. Although it is a common bath tub, it is definitely cleaner then most of the hotel’s one. People here are very considerate and it get wash by cleaners everyday.

The walkway to the dinning hall. The black hanger rack is what we use to hang our caps, cloak and bags, as these are not allowed to be brought into the dinning hall.

The dinning hall. Grand right? But we have to be formally dress for almost every meals.

Now on to the Bars that I mention in my previous post. The more grand one, Marlborough Room.

The one that I prefer, the more relaxing one, Icarus Room.

There is also a pool room,

The place where you find the hall porter.

Last but not least, guess where this place.

Yap the internet suit. And this sums up today post.

I did it again

Sunday, woke up by the ringing tone from the phone in my bedroom. Picked up the call, and I was so surprise to hear Kelvin's voice over at the other end. Definitely a pleasant surprise and a wonderful morning call. We talk for like an hour catching up and updating each other. I also understand that the S$10 phone card that he bought allow him to talk to me for like 8 hrs?!? It’s like cheaper than using hp talking to each other when we are in Singapore. Anyway I made up my mind to go down town to grab the UK$5 phone card which allows me to call Singapore with 330mins credit.

Met up with Mo and Hannah (don’t really know how to spell her name) for lunch in the dinning room, and we headed straight for town after lunch. Mo needs to buy some top and trainer while we just talk Hannah into joining us.

Was a good trip. We managed to meet all objectives and I went over and above my objective.

Notices any thing wrong with the picture below?

Can’t tell? Maybe this picture may help.

Hahaha… Yes, I did it again. Introducing Companion 3.

The Subwoofer.

The Satellite Speaker and the very cool sound control unit.

Know somebody at home gonna make noise… Hahaha… But I got three very good reasons why I had to buy this.

1. The bass-less laptop speakers are killing me. They are destroying my hearing ability!!!

2. I miss everything in my room back in Singapore. Although this is not 5.1, but i can do with a 2.1 with the laptop here in UK.

3. MOst important of all, Good Quality Music help you relax. bad quality music makes you loss hair!!!

So much for the speakers. In UK, other then beer, the next best thing is crisps. Just want to recommend the following. Good stuff.

That’s about sums it all for today. Back to my room. Back to my “companion”.

INTERNET UP!!!

My internet is finally back… 2 weeks without internet... Apparently, there was a nasty fault on the telephone cables near the camp. This brought down some of the BT telephone lines in Sultan which directly affected the ADSL connection in the internet room. However it wasn’t that terrible as I first thought without the internet as I was kept busy with meeting deadlines for reports. If this was to happen to me in Singapore, I am going to give the internet service provider a bloody hard time if they don’t get my internet up by 1 day, not to mention 2 weeks.

Ok now an update on what I have being up to for the past 2 weeks. Done a fair bit of shopping on both the weekends and these are what I have gotten.

Nike Factory shop. Just can’t resist not buying anything when I go into a Nike shop. I am really trying hard to stay within my monthly budget I set for myself but… I think I need work really really hard in this area…

Pair of Nike glove. UK$2. Cheap and prepare for the winter.

Edna might like this…

It’s super fit. I simply in love with this.

Learning to play some English game.

Some other miscellaneous things that I have bought.

Do you believe that I got these in UK?

Bought these from this shop. Something like a mama store in Singapore.

The price of these are bout 3 times that of Singapore. But sometime you need some morale boosting food to cheer you up.

Finally someone close to home join me in Sultan. A Malaysian Naval Officer. My good neighbour. He is here for the Air Engineering Course. Very friendly and we click of pretty well. Some of the shopping was done with him. And we also had some good meals together in Gunwharf Quays.

Oriental food. Buffet style and it’s really packed.

Made a trip down to down to London two weeks ago to meet up with my project sponsor on a week day. Meeting lasted two hours… so what we did with the spare time? Shopping and sight seeing!!! I miss a photo shot on the famous parliament house clock tower in London. Will do so in my next trip. Wasn’t feeling too well that day as I had a 48hr virus attack. Spend most part of the night before in the toilet rather on my bed. I can’t remember the virus name but this virus last 48hrs in your body and it keep you having to report to the toilet every hourly. It also comes with fever as a package. Highest temperature I hit was 38.6… So not too scary huh.

Waterloo Train station.

Equation, No mummy = self laundry and self ironing. Don’t worry Quality is not, and will not be compromised. Well trained in OCS.

I know lots of my friend including kelvin and damien visit here often, so i post something that you like. All our dream cars can be easily found on the street in UK. They don't really have wonderful bodykits but their engine are huge. I have like 20-30 super cars in Sultan. Ranging from Pos to Honda S2000. Starting of the car of this post, Audi TT.

Long post... Ending off with... Weather starting to turn cold. My uniform/rig for school.

Cheers
