Weekly update

Its being a busy week, loaded with revisions and assignments. Two reports and one of them is due this Monday. Anyway other than working very hard, I managed to squeeze out some time for R and R (Rest and Relax). Hmm starting off with Monday, err… nothing worth mentioning on Monday.

Tuesday, Pub Quiz Night!

Mo, the third guy in the picture below, being the class Social Rep, he initiated our first social outing on Tuesday. We headed for a country pub call the Bun Penny to have my very first experience of English pub.

In a 7 seater cab on our way to the pub. (Left to right) Eric (if u don't know who is eric, please move ur pointer to the red icon with a cross on the top right hand corner of this screen and click), Ridley and Mo

The country pub.

QUIZ NIGHT EVERY TUESDAY AT THE BUN PENNY WITH JOHN THE QUIZ MASTER

So it was a Quiz night. Each of us paid UK$1 to participate. How the quiz went was that, throughout the night, the Quiz master asked 50 Questions. 10 questions each of different category; Food, Sports, Music and the other two that I have forgotten. Another 10 marks went to the all night question. We were given 5 IQ questions which we have the whole night to answer. Example, form 15 four letter words with the word SULTAN. Anyway, I must say that the GK of the UK guys are fantastic. We got 48 correct answers out of the 50 questions and 9/10 marks on the IQ one. But of those that we got wrong, it was not that we do not know he answers, it was because we made silly mistakes.

When the result was announced, our score tied with another team for the first place. And came the tie breaker Question. When did Lotus first Join the Formula One? Opps... none knew the answer… But we manage to give a fairly good guess, 1965! The other team said 1963. The answer was 1958!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arhh… … ok we have to settle for second place, prize money of UK$17. The other team won UK$25. Good taxi money. We all agreed that we will go back again next week to grab the next UK$25.

Before we leave the pub, group photo of the Runner up team.

Arhh... I position myself too slow for the first shot... set timer longer...
Andy and Vicky forgot that night shot got 2 flash.

Friday

Played my first soccer game in UK with the Canadians on Friday when all the UK people left Sultan and headed back home for the weekend. As most my soccer kakis know, I can’t take heat fatigue well as I can’t perspire from my upper body and above, I dun last long during a soccer match in Singapore. But surprisingly, I was able to play a full match here and run like a crazy horse. Must be the weather. I am going to ask if I can take my Ippt for next workyear here and send the result back to Singapore. $200 in pocket… wahahaha!!!

Was a game of 5 on 5, we played on half the football field with a smaller goal. Good game, scored 2 and created a few. Put in too much passion in the game and ended up with this when I tried to block a cross.

Nice 'X' there right? kekeke. Going to play more soccer today.

Will end the post with the picyure of the week
New week, new suit, new tie

The start of 40 hrs of Electric Lessons

Woke up this morning with my head a little heavy. Got to be the 3 pines of beers and the little glass of white wine that sank down my throat last night. The UK and Canadians are really fun people. Never ending conversations and laughter. After dinner, was invited to the bar for some drink. First was a cup of hot chocolate, then came the beers and then the white wines. I “siam” too many times, no choice got to join them once or twice. Anyway, I will delicate one post to say more on the few bars that we have in the wardroom. Really nice and special.

Ok onto school work, after burning thru the Electrical Notes and pass years Exam papers yesterday, felt so much better when attending electrics lesson today. If I was this hardworking during school days, guess I would have gotten some ADs for my electrical modules. And for the first time in history, I did not doze off in class for even 1 sec today!!! Great achievement. That calls for a celebration!!! Wahahaha…

I brought my webcam and Mic to the computer room thinking to do some Video Conferencing with my family, but their not online. Never mind, there is always a tomorrow. Time to head for dinner. Maybe going to more revision after dinner. No more drinking for me tonight.. Leave you with the picture of the day.

Cheers!!!

Car Boot Sales

Got up late this morning as I slept late last night updating the blog… Anyway Waqas was kind enough to give me a morning call to ask if I am still interested in going to the Sunday Car Boots Sales. He needs to get a bicycle. Although still sleepy and before he called I was having a really sweat dream, but I still got up of bed and wash-up and all ready in 20mins. Waqas got to know this place thru a Pakistanis friend who used to station in Gosport for 9 month, now in some other part of UK. So as usual practice, we walked to that place.

Anyone want to guess where this Car Boot Sale is happening?

SCHOOL 0.0

Stores in the school walkway

Stores in the school hall

Hmmm… these people don't look like primary school kids…

Yah… the car boot stores

Waqas looking at some bic. We did not manage to get a bic for him as all the bics are either above his budget or in poor condition. Guess he has to come back again next week. UK$25… Waqas, we will find 1 good one next week.

Got myself a bicycle pump. The owner wants Uk$2.5. But I managed to get it for UK$2 with my bargaining skill. Guess he did not know that just before coming to UK, I did some really intensive training in Bangkok with a few close friends and their GIRLFRIENDS. Here is Waqas helping me with the pump... Oh I did the other tire myself.

After doing some PMS on it, its now back in operation. But still have to do some washing to remove all the spider webs.

Tag left by YY. Thank you!!! Make it so much easier to find the bic.

Some history of this bic. Kenneth bought this bic when he was in HMS Collinwood doing his WEC course. After he left, he handover the bic to YY who was then doing her SEMC in Sultan. After completing her course, she left this bic for me. So sweet of her. So officially I am the 3rd owner. Err… wait… the 3rd owner was the spider that I had just killed. But I have yet to clear its web… Oh well I am the 4th owner then. R.I.P spidy… didn’t you see the tag above that clearly states my name on it. Only thing that YY forgot to include was that “All trespassers will be PROSECUTED” Cheers (^^,)

I think I should give this bic a name. Since the first owner of this bic is Kenneth, and she will be handed down to RSN officers only, we shall call it RSS Kenneth. Cool right Kenneth? Name after you.

Oh yah… a close up view of the hand pump that I bought.

After getting my bic operational, took it to high street to grab a bit. Lunch time in Wardroom overed... This is how high street look like on a Sunday afternoon... ...

and its like only...

My lunch... wheres the burger and fries??? In the process of making... And guess what, I asked for chilli, they gave me this...

Cool curry!!! yummy... err... taste kinda different...

Anyway got back to cabin and did some revision and study as well as tackle the Electrical paper... Tough times... Gonna leave you with this...

p.s. you can now post ur comments as anonymous, need not have a blogger acct. But do remember to leave ur name at the bottom if u want me to know who you are.

Cheers!!!

Trip to Portsmouth

Saturday, 17 Sep 05. As agreed with Waqas the night before to go Portsmouth town today, I wake up early in the morning, had my usual breakfast, and prepared for journey. We did not set off until about 1030H as Waqas need to make a phone call to his friend who is happen to be in UK on course too. If u know me well, you will know that Eric’s rules and theory when he is overseas is to walk to his destination rather then take transport; As I believe that through walking, then I will be able to see more things and most important save money. I always feel a sense of achievement when I am able to do budget tour. Another reason maybe because I spend too freely in Singapore, and when I am overseas, I want to takan myself. Sadist me. Wahahaha… Hmm… maybe come and think again… the more important reason could be my next C when I return to Singapore… kekeke…

Anyway, I made poor Waqas to suffer with me. The journey from Wardroom to the Gosport Town took us 40mins. Take a look at our journey.

Aint I brilliant wahaha… with a map and my generic build in compass, I can go anywhere. Some pictures of Gosport Town Center (High Street).

Hmm… what is happening??? Horse and carriage.

Wedding!!! Wah so traditional one. Wonder how much it cost to get them to Singapore. Get a license from Singapore Government to put this thing on our road and I think I can make big money if I were to rent them out to wedding couples. Kelvin, Damien business idea. Hahaha…

My journey to Portsmouth continues. Arrived at Gosport ferry, just beside Gosport Town.

Nice Sea view.

Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth

Wow nice nice!!! HMS Warrior (1860)

After arriving in Portsmouth, we headed towards the Cascades Shopping Centre. My initial thoughts looking at the map and its huge floor area was that it must be a huge shopping Centre, maybe something like Taka. But when I got there, I know their meaning of centre…

Had lunch. Spend some time searching for a Halah Restaurant but can’t find. Poor Waqas got to settle for Sandwiches… Me? BK… UK$5.19… My most expensive BK meal S$15.57 to date. Kekeke

After spending about 2 hours there, we headed to another Shopping area in Portsmouth.

On my way to Gunwharf Quays Shopping Area, passed by these places.

HMS NELSON (One of the Royal Naval Base)

Portsmouth Bus Station

Hmm… someone may like this shop.

My shop!!!

Presenting an amateur production by arrangement with JOSEF WEINBERGER LTD on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York. A New version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s THE PIRATES of PENZANCE. 10 – 15 Oct 05 Kings Theatre Southsea.

Since I took picture of them and post without asking them, think I will give them a free advertisement in MY blog. Wonder if anyone is interested to go with me?

Time to head back to Gosport.

Portsmouth Harbour

Gosport Ferry

Never get enough of capturing HMS Sultan. Oh by the way we walk back from Gosport. Although Waqas look pretty unwilling, but I pulled him along. I am UK$6 richer!!! Where to find a job in Singapore that pay you S$18 to walk for 40mins right?

Things I bought today.

Did not really accomplish my mission. Could not find the pillow that I want. All the pillows are too soft!!! And that include the ones in my room. I bought the Tie in one of the shop in Gunwharf Quays. UK$12. No choice, don't want to wear the Navy Tie with my suit for my entire stay here. Map of Portsmouth, UK$1, cheap and good. Chinese DVD!!! House of Flying Daggers by Zhang Yimou, UK$9.99, very ex, but I want to watch so no choice… Long telephone cables, just incase I want to get DIAL UP in my room. UK$1 each, cheap, so who cares, get them first. But I seriously wonder if I can survive with dial up… Hmm... there goes my bad spending habbit... Save some spend more... Who can understand me?

OK time to sleep. Post in the comments box so i know that u are here.

Cheers
